Ascribe Glory to Yahweh

A Psalm of David.

1Ascribe to Yahweh, O heavenly beings,

ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.

  • PS 29:1[NOTE]SEVEN THUNDERS. The voice of Yahweh shows up seven times in this psalm, like seven claps of thunder. Many think it answers the Canaanite storm god Baal: the real Lord of the storm is Yahweh.

2Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due His name;

worship Yahweh in the splendor of His holiness.

3The voice of Yahweh is over the waters;

the God of glory thunders;

Yahweh is heard over many waters.

4The voice of Yahweh is powerful;

the voice of Yahweh is majestic.

5The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars;

Yahweh shatters the cedars of Lebanon.

6He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,

and Sirion like a young wild ox.

7The voice of Yahweh

strikes with flames of fire.

8The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness;

Yahweh shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.

9The voice of Yahweh twists the oaks

and strips the forests bare.

And in His temple all cry, “Glory!”

10Yahweh sits enthroned over the flood;

Yahweh is enthroned as King forever.

11Yahweh gives His people strength;

Yahweh blesses His people with peace.

What do the colors mean?

Each color marks one kind of verse: lime green for prophecies about the Messiah, teal for miracles, sand for archaeology, and so on. Tap any color in the chapter key to turn it off. Use Customize to choose exactly which ones you see.
